On behalf of an architectural practice, responsible for the technical development of a concept design for a new court building and for issuing production information packages throughout a D+B contract.

Commissioned by RIBA R&D department. The report was written in the format of a pattern language and set out a phased strategy for building an interactive website to be used by architectural researchers and practitioners for the purpose of creating and sharing knowledge.

Above: Gun Hill House and Water Tower, Aldershot

Currently engaged by Grainger plc as lead consultant and principal designer to convert two Grade II listed buildings in the Cambridge Military Hospital conservation zone of the Aldershot garrison into 17 dwellings. Responsible for developing a concept design by Adam Architecture and preparing production information.

Appointed project manager for a 17-storey, 299 keys, 5-star business hotel after a failed tender:

  • led a value engineering exercise that reduced costs and re-allocated risk;
  • conducted fresh negotiations that reduced the main building works tender price by $17m and obtained $750,000 savings to the on-going piling contract;
  • increased the efficiency of the proposed layout to raise the IRR above the hurdle rate, double the NPV and provide more and better quality facilities.
Below: Delay analysis

Engaged by Feilden+Mawson to assess a contractor's claim for an extension of time of 20 weeks. The analysis recreated the programme and relevant events using the critical path method and an actual based model to arrive at a recommended EOT of 18 days. The assumptions, approach, and conclusions of the report were accepted by all parties.

Above: East Reef

Carried out a project appraisal to attract funding for a regeneration proposal at Jaywick, Essex. Analysis and business case headings followed the 'Five Case Model' and were consistent with guidelines for project appraisal set out in HM Treasury's Green Book.

Above: GOGGS Quadrennial Report

Carried out a Quadrennial Inspection of Government Offices, Great George Street (GOGGS), Whitehall. Observations and recommended actions were arranged in an intelligent database that could be automatically sorted according to different criteria, such as location, consequences, risk, and cost.

Below: UK Property Asset Management Standard

Assembled a consortium of professional bodies and public and private organisations with the goal of preparing a code of practice for managing operational property assets. Aimed at business managers and property professionals, the guidelines emphasise the strategic alignment of buildings and facilities with business objectives.

Right: Parliamentary Estate Master Plan

Assisted an architectural practice with the preparation of a development masterplan for the Parliamentary Estate. Responsible for coordinating a development masterplan with an accommodation strategy and a business case. The predicted outcomes of this exercise, based on available data:

  • allowed all leases for rented property to be relinquished;

  • halved annual property costs;

  • reduced travel times across the Estate;

  • consolidated the Estate within a tighter, more secure perimeter.
